The Science Advisory Council of the Presidency of Mexico is the advisory body of the highest level that provides independent opinions and recommendations to the President, with regard to national planning of policies and Mexico’s scientific and technological priorities.

The Science Advisory Council was established in 1989 as an advisory body and technical support to the President, the Council is formed by distinguished researchers who have been awarded with the National Prize of Arts and Sciences. The members of the Council do not receive any remuneration for their counselling and they are integrated in four Committees, i) Social Sciences, Philosophy and History; ii) Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; iii) Natural Sciences; and iv) Technology and Design.

It is in this manner the Council assumes the role of advisory body of the President of Mexico. Moreover, the Executive Secretariat of the Council fulfills the function of providing the necessary administrative support for the development of the functions of its members.



The Council’s mission is to use the knowledge and experience of the Council Members in order to advise the President in terms of science and technology.
